A Great Success!

The Fifth annual Play for Blue event was held March 3, at the Palmira Tennis Center. The participation and support with great weather resulted in an overwhelming success.

The day began with playing of the National Anthem by Whitney Houston, and the presentation of the colors by the Barron Collier ROTC.

Play began at 9:00 am with blue themed teams headed by co captains Peter Dawson / Sue Phelps, Blue Martinis. Ed Rusk / Annette Howard, Blue Man Group, and David Wait/Mary Goulston, Blue Shots. The winning team was the Blue Martinis. All participants received a complimentary PCRI blue bag, blue Gatorade, blue wrist band and towel and sunscreen.

There was a festive atmosphere, created by the Blue Balloons, Joe Subin's background music, and blue themed blue sponsor signs and banners, blue clothing, and most important blue skies.

This year's event sponsors are Specialists in Urology, and Cleveland Clinic Florida. We had special guest Cathy Williams, COO of the Prostate Cancer Reaserch Institute  from Los Angeles, with whom we are developing an alliance for future spread of Play for Blue events throughout SW Florida and eventually across the nation.

Our corporate sponsor is JK South Insurance who has been a supporter and advocate since inception.

Walgreen's provided the registration tent, and complimentary blood pressure checks by two Pharmacists.

The proceeds from all sources, including a raffle, silent auction, Bonita Firefighter's chili and Royal Scoop ice cream is approximately

                                 $14,000

Thanks to all who participated, with special thanks to key team members, Gene Mascolo, Bob Howard, Jack Ewald, Sherri Young, Annette Howard, Louis Patack, Bob Lindquist, Lou Bobroff, Barb Lefkowitz, the Colgan's, Maureen Conway, David Cooper, Phil Prinzi, Kenny Gibson and his staff.
